As a photographer myself, what does a Director of Photography do here that Gregory cannot? I am just trying to understand the huge staff that Gregory has and what all the actual roles are. Thanks.
I spent a few years assisting before shooting for myself. There was one photographer I worked for whose first assistant was also his DOP. He operated the camera similarly to how a camera operator would on a movie set, and the photographer watched the images coming in and made adjustments as he saw fit. So his DOP was simply the technician, and the photographer controlled everything in the photo, as well as the camera settings and composition. After working on some bigger shoots myself, I could see how much of a luxury it would be to focus solely on the image creation and not operate the camera.

Crewson most likely has the financial means to carry out the photoshoots where every detail is controlled. I wish I had that myself.
Yes, I agree that but I don't unerstand the difference between a Director of Photogaphy and being the "photographer" himself.
