INT. GREAT ROOM - TWILIGHT
We are positioned at the edge of a dimly-lit living room, gazing toward a wall of windows at the far end, and a view toward an expansive lawn and the Long Island Sound beyond. This home is substantial; a mid-century stone structure with its own life and legacy. But now, we peer in on a quiet moment of reflection; a domestic Sunday that feels like the end of an endless afternoon, demuring into twilight.
The room has a feel of a couple embarking on a new chapter. The furnishings are fine, and elegant, but sparse, and perhaps auditioning their positions in the room. Fabric swatches have been set on the arm of a chair here, and atop a pillow there, to either earn a spot or be rejected as they’re considered by an expert eye. There are signs of the inhabitants’ sensitivity and passion for nature: birds and foliage are a theme in the objects adorning the space. The location itself is remote; a veritable piece of paradise; the only distant destination is an uninhabited island standing guard at the eastern horizon.
Just outside the windows, a MALE FIGURE is standing at the edge of the lawn, in three quarter view toward the water. He’s wrapped in a blanket, lost in thought. There is a low-lying fog, creating a dream-like atmosphere as the sun sets; time feels suspended.
Inside, closer to us, a DESIGNER is seated on an armchair in his bathrobe. A nearby floor lamp illuminates his face, revealing an expression of reflection and contemplation.
