GREGORY CREWDSON, SPECIAL PROJECT 2026
EXT. REMOTE SIDE STREET - TWILIGHT
We are positioned at the center of a street at the very edge of a small town. A few buildings lead our gaze to where the street rounds a corner and meets the surrounding wooded hillsides. The stands of pines and distant mountains offer a sense of refuge, of wonder, and an Edenic feeling of mystery.
It’s late spring, and we can see the remnants of the snowy winter that has just passed. The ground has not yet fully thawed, and there is a trail of dirty snow kicked into the gutters amidst a low-hanging fog. It’s dusk, and a soft glow from a pink sky creates a dreamy, slightly surreal atmosphere.
The street is deserted and lonely, with just a couple of murky streetlights illuminating parked cars along the curb. An archaic phone booth sits on the sidewalk. Everything about this place feels disconnected from normal space-time and contemporary waking life.
Close to us, facing camera, a dated, blue, nondescript coupe has stopped in the middle of the street. We have a clear view through the windshield to its driver, a WOMAN, who seems caught between places, or perhaps lost. Her hands have dropped away from the steering wheel, perhaps sensing the bright, mysterious light—an otherworldly beacon—coming from an unknown source behind her.

There are many people that helped make this special picture possible, but I’d like to start by thanking my production team, listed below, as well as Phoebe Bridgers, Darin Harmon, Jasmine Casillas, stylist Harper Slate, hair and makeup artist Nathaniel Dezan, and everyone else who helped coordinate the myriad details behind the scenes from team Bridgers (With a special mention for Phoebe’s dog Maxine.)
I also want to shout out the town of Adams, MA, its fire and police departments, town officials and residents for allowing us to take over this street and use it as a backdrop.
Additionally, thank you to Alex de Ronde, Max Teicher and everyone at 291 Agency.
With appreciation, Gregory
